My new ZDX has a weird RPM issue at low speeds. I'm wondering if it's the transmission fluid, since I've read that changing it 3 times can help. But why 3 times? And if that doesn't work, what else could it be?
The reason for doing it 3 times is that a single drain and fill only replaces a portion of the old fluid since a lot remains in the torque converter. By repeating the process, you dilute and eventually replace most of the old fluid with fresh ATF. This should solve the RPM issue.
If it’s not the fluid, then the transmission itself could be the culprit. Probably a smart move to have a mechanic dig a little deeper if this keeps happening.
Another thing to consider is the possibility of a sensor issue. If one of the sensors that monitors RPM or transmission behavior is malfunctioning, then it could cause erratic readings at low speeds. definitely worth getting those checked out too!
RPM fluctuations can stem from many things, including sensor problems, fuel delivery issues, or indeed, transmission concerns. Don't rely on internet fixes; a professional diagnostic is crucial.
