So when we picked up our ZDX, the dealer tried to sell us a bunch of service packages, covering spills on the interior, small seat tears, scratched rims, paint protection, tire damage, and more. We ended up declining all of them, but now I’m second-guessing a little.

The tires on the ZDX Type S look pretty pricey, and since they’re summer tires paired with 499hp (and I’ve been known to have a bit of a heavy foot), I’m thinking they might wear out quickly. Plus, we’ve had our fair share of scratched rims on our previous car, guilty as charged, but my wife shares some of the blame, too. 😅

Are these actually worth it, especially for tires or rims? Or are we better off just dealing with repairs or replacements as needed? I’m guessing normal wear on tires wouldn’t be covered anyway. For rim scratches, does anyone know if there are cheaper repair options out there instead of going through these dealer plans?

Do you know what lesson I have learned a few years ago? It is better to buy it and bet that you will need it, than not buying it and betting that you won't need it. Try to negotiate! Hope it helps!

Yeah, those service packages are kinda pricey. You never know what you'll need. High-performance tires and big rims can get messed up easily, especially if you drive fast. Winter tires can help protect your summer tires. For small rim scratches, a local shop might be cheaper than the dealer. But if it's bad, you might need a new one. It's up to you if you want those service plans. Think about how you drive and where you live.
