Acura ZDX tail light malfunction

My tail lights are totally messed up! I can;t tell if it's a wiring issue or just a bulb problem. They're not working right, and I'm so confused about which lights are supposed to do what. When I brake with the lights off, only some of them light up it's like a checkerboard pattern. Are the inner or outer ones the actual brake lights? And when I unlock the car, it's the same deal, some blink, some don't. Which ones are supposed to flash when I unlock it? Plus, now I'm noticing my turn signal on the same side is acting up too, sometimes it flashes really fast, sometimes it doesn't flash at all. This whole thing is a mess!
 
Hey! The best first step is to test each bulb individually to ensure they are functioning properly. By checking each one, you can rule out faulty bulbs and narrow down whether the problem lies with the bulbs themselves or elsewhere such as wiring or the fuse
 
Your taillights are acting weird. The mixed up brake lights mean you likely have a wiring or bulb problem. The fast turn signal usually means a bulb's dead but with all the other issues it could be a bad ground or control box too. Knowing which lights do what is tricky but usually the outside ones are brake lights and the inside ones are parking or extra brake lights. When you unlock the turn signals and sometimes the brake lights should flash. You should check each bulb and the wires for damage. If you;re not good with car electrics, a mechanic is your best bet as those problems can be complicated.
 
Sounds similar to what I dealt with! Turned out that both my mini brake bulb and brake light were out.
I had to replace everything with LED upgrades everywhere.
